Youth Program Coordinator

Job Description and Requirements

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
Questscope began work in Jordan in 1994. In an initiative for the Juvenile Correctional
System, sponsored by the Ministry of Social Development and the World Bank,
Questscope developed one of the largest civic engagement programs in Jordan, training
4,000 student volunteers from Jordanian universities to mentor 6,000 young people in
conflict with the law - at risk of delinquency and incarceration.


From 2000, in an exceptional GO/INGO partnership, the Ministry of Education and
Questscope introduced an accredited non-formal education program - unique in the Arab
world - that has enabled thousands of out-of-school young men and women to continue their studies.


In 2013, Questscope adapted the mentoring approach to the particular circumstances of
young people displaced by war and violence in the Za’atari Refugee Camp. Questscope
launched a Youth Center that has reached out to more than 2150 young people in the
camp, completely led and directed by a core team of 40 visionary Syrian volunteers.


Since its founding in 1988, Questscope has implemented successful mentoring,
education, and emergency aid initiatives for thousands of disadvantaged youth, in
partnership with USAID, UNICEF, UNFPA, the European Union, the World Bank and
others. Questscope has created programs in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Northern Iraq,
Yemen and Sudan.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Youth Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating
programs for youth in the community. The Youth Coordinator reports to the Project
Supervisor and is responsible for administering and delivering programs for youth in the
community. The Youth Coordinator will consult with youth and organizations that represent youth to determine their needs and develop programs in response to those needs.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Research and develop programs for youth Main Activities :

  • Assess the program requirements of youth in the community.
  • Communicate with youth to determine their needs and interests.
  • Communicate with organizations that represent youth to determine needs and interests of youth.
  • Ensure a variety of sport, recreation, cultural and other programs are planned and implemented.
  •  Ensure program information is available.
  •  Evaluate the effectiveness of programs.
  •  Identify areas where new programs are needed.

2. Plan and implement activities for youth Main Activities :

  • Schedule activities, facilities and volunteers as required.
  •  Supervise and lead activities for youth.
  • Monitor the use of equipment and facilities.

3. Promote youth programs Main Activities :

  • Coordinate a community relations campaign to promote youth programs.
  • Arrange for advertising of youth programs.
  •  Maintain contacts with local, regional and territorial organizations for youth.
  •  Monitor the use of equipment and facilities.

4. Administer youth programs Main Activities :

  • Prepare a plan for youth activities
  • Prepare financial and program reports
  •  Record information on and prepare reports concerning youth programs, costs, numbers of participants and equipment and facility use
  • Provide monthly and yearly reports about youth programs and opportunities
  •  Ensure that all programs and activities are implemented according to relevant legislation, policies and procedures

5. Any other tasks assigned by Project Manager and/or Project Supervisor.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS &KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  •  Bachelor degree in youth studies, education, social work, human services, or a related field (additional experience may substitute for education)
  •  2-3 years of experience in youth development, or other closely related field
